7 Essential Steps to An Exceptional Shave
Are you one of those guys that wakes up each morning dreading the 'Shaving Ritual'?
Only then to be plagued by razor burn, nicks/cuts and redness making you look like you’ve fallen under a lawnmower?
Here are 7 essential steps that will make shaving a pleasure each morning
- Use A Face Scrub At Least Twice A Week
Regular exfoliation helps slough off dead skin cells, which may improve the texture of your skin and prepares you for a smoother shave. Opt for a gentle and natural based scrub that’s not like sandpaper, otherwise it will leave your skin red and blotchy.
- Warm Your Skin
If you don’t have a shower before you shave, try warming your beard with a fairly hot face cloth, gently pressing into areas of your face and neck that you want to shave. This helps soften the toughest of beard growths, while also raising the facial hair up and off the skin allowing for a closer shave.
- Add A Pre-Shave Oil To Your Routine
For guys with coarse beards, apply a few drops of pre-shave oil to your skin. This will allow your razor to cut through the facial hair much easier without pulling or dragging. Even better try two layers: First VITAMAN Shave Oil then VITAMAN Shave Crème or Gel on top – for double the protection.
- Ditch The Old Foaming and/or Lathering Shave Creams
Foaming and lathering creams can be too harsh on your skin. Made with chemicals, artificial fragrances and alcohols that dry out and irritate the skin – try avoiding them at all costs. Go with a moisturising shaving crème that will nourish and hydrate your skin.
- As You Shave, Rinse Your Blade Under Running Hot Water
Just like a hot knife through butter, razor blades cut more efficiently when hot, so you will get a closer and smoother shave.
- Stop Using After Shave Colognes
That stinging and redness that comes from applying alcohol based colognes and some after shave lotions to your face post shave is trying to tell you something – STOP! Post shave - you want to cool and calm the skin, so a natural after shave balm will do this.
- Don’t Keep Using Your Razor When You Know It’s Getting Blunt
You know you do it. When you can start to feel it dragging on your skin or pulling your beard growth, replace it ASAP. It’s almost certain it will cause shave rash and potential infection from all the bacteria - so buy your blades in bulk so you never run out.
