SHAVING CONCERNS
For most men, shaving irritation isn't caused by sensitive skin — it's caused by the shave itself. Using the wrong products, poor preparation, and rushed techniques all combine to put unnecessary stress on the skin. Dragging a blade across dry or under-prepped skin, using generic alcohol foams and gels that don't properly soften the hair or protect the surface and shaving against the grain all contribute to a painful experience.
The result is razor burn, ingrown hairs, redness and micro-cuts that leave your skin looking irritated and feeling raw rather than clean and sharp. Left unaddressed, repeated poor shaving habits compound over time, weakening the skin's barrier and making every shave that follows more uncomfortable than the last. Turning your shave into a Professional Barber experience at home starts with the right preparation, the right products and a technique that works with the skin rather than against it.
The VITAMAN Shave Ritual will give you the steps to achieve a smooth, close shave every time. First step is to analyse the way your facial hair grows – you do this once as it never changes and will be your shaving direction for life! Divide your face into 4 sections and analyse in each section the direction your beard grows, whether it grows up, down or sideways. Imagine an arrow at the end of the hair pointing out of the follicle, that’s the direction/angle you need to shave in.
THE SHAVE RULES ARE:
- Shave - WITH the direction of the hair growth (in small strokes). Then Shave - ACROSS the direction of the hair growth (either way)
- Never Shave AGAINST the direction as this can cause ingrown hairs.
- Always use the hottest razor possible (warmed in hot water) because hot steel cuts more efficiently than cold steel.
NOW START PREPPING THE SKIN.
CLEAN/SOFTEN:
Apply one pump of Cleanser to your face and add warm water to clean and soften your skin & beard. Rinse and pat dry.
PRESHAVE:
Apply VITAMAN’s Pre Shave Oil this will give you the extra layer of protection between the skin and the razor blade, as well as soften the hair and warm up the skin. Apply enough oil to cover the areas to be shaved, gently massage lifting the hairs.
SHAVE GEL OR SHAVE CRÈME:
Apply enough Shave Gel (or Shave Crème) directly on top of the Shave Oil. Support the area to be shaved with one hand, to keep the skin firm and taut and start shaving in small strokes WITH the direction of the beard growth and then ACROSS the direction, either way, using a hot razor blade. Reapply the Shave Gel if necessary, if you need to go over the area twice. Don’t lift the skin as you shave, as this can cause ingrown hairs and razor burn.
RINSE & CALM:
Rinse the shave products off with cool water and then follow with After Shave Balm to calm the skin (wait a minute for it to absorb) then apply Face Moisturiser or Daily Hydrating Serum to the entire face and neck.
Tips:
- This is a low lather Shave Gel, developed purposely without harsh foaming chemicals. Suitable for all skin types especially those with problem/sensitive skin allowing you to see whether you’re shaving around sensitive areas (such as acne, moles and scars).
- Remember to always use the hottest razor blade possible, rinsing your blade in hot water regularly during the shave.
